About Lee's Summit Soccer Association
Soccer is a great way to introduce children to sports and team play. LSSA emphasizes teaching the fundamentals of soccer and, in the recreational program, ensures each child plays at least one half of each game. LSSA's recreational outdoor program is designed to develop and challenge players, but most of all, allow them to have fun. LSSA is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization committed to providing our community with a low cost, high quality soccer program. Over 2000 kids from Lee's Summit and surrounding communities participate each spring and fall. Thanks to our valued sponsors and concession fundraising, participants do not sell candy or promotional goods for fundraisers.
In the Fall of 2003 LSSA began it's competitive soccer program. The program takes advantage of the established "share-play" system set up in Lee's Summit and surrounding communities. Teams play four home games at Legacy Park and the other four games at one of the surrounding communities (e.g. Blue Springs, Independence, Raytown). The program was implemented to give advanced players an opportunity to stay in the Lee's Summit community.
Ages
LSSA starts with a 4-year-old division (designated as U5). Play continues through age 15. A photocopy of the player's birth certificate is required. The age requirement is evaluated only once a year, on July 31st. For the Fall season the age requirement must be met on July 31 of the same year. For the Spring season the age requirement must be met on July 31 of the previous year. LSSA has separate divisions for girls and boys, except for U15, which may be co-ed depending on whether enough teams for each division can be created that season.
Team Organization
LSSA strives to balance teams. Teams may stay together from season to season, using a draft for new players to create new teams or balance existing teams. If desired, parents may request their child to be re-drafted onto a different team. New players are always welcome and will be placed on teams where needed. Generally, requests to play for a specific coach or with a specific player cannot always be honored.
Schedule
LSSA games are generally played on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. The first game is usually in March for the Spring season and September for the Fall season. We make every effort to play eight (8) games inclusive of a single elimination tournament scheduled for the last weekend of the season (no tournament for U5 or U6 division, a regular game is played instead). Mother Nature does not always cooperate with our schedule and make up games are generally held on Sundays, between 11am and 7pm.
Venue
All games are played at the Soccer Venue at Legacy Park in Lee's Summit located at the corner of Colbern and Blackwell roads.
Uniforms
For the Recreational Soccer Division, LSSA provides a team shirt and matching socks that must be the outermost articles of clothing worn while on the playing field. Shin guards are required to participate in LSSA games and practices. Soccer cleats are optional, but LSSA does not allow baseball cleats (cleat on the toe of the sole) or football (rectangular cleats on the outmost part of the sole). Black shorts are the player's choice, but not required. Players need their own soccer ball for practice:
- Soccer ball size 3 for ages U5 (under 5) through U8
- Soccer ball size 4 for U9 thru U12
- Soccer ball size 5 for U15
Practices
Coaches schedule practices at various schools, parks and churches. Generally, practices will be twice a week prior to the first game and either once or twice a week once games begin.
