About Lee's Summit Soccer Association
Soccer is a great way to introduce children to sports through team play and to exercise. The Lee’s Summit Soccer Association (LSSA) has two complimentary divisions; 1) Recreational Soccer and 2) Competitive Soccer. Our LSSA recreational division emphasizes teaching the fundamentals of soccer, ensures each child plays at least one half of each game. This division is designed to develop and challenge players, but most of all, allow them to have fun.
The competitive division is designed for those players who excelled in the LSSA recreational division and desire to play in a more aggressive, competitive environment where players and coaches may choose to practice more frequently, play more tournaments and in some cases have selected to play soccer all year around. The competitive division isn’t for everyone, but the LSSA competitive division has a history of producing a number of high level youth players that have proven to succeed on the field in regional and national venues.
LSSA is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization committed to providing our community with a low cost, high quality soccer programs. Nearly 5,000 members from Lee's Summit and surrounding communities participate in our programs annually. Thanks to our valued sponsors and member fees, LSSA doesn’t ask participants to sell candy or promotional goods for fundraisers.
Ages
LSSA starts with a 3-year-old “Juniors” league that plays inside on Thursdays at Z Sports Arena in Greenwood. No games on Saturdays. This program is focused on drills appropriate to this special age group to teach them the basics of the game of soccer with the main focus on having fun!
The recreational leagues start with players age 4 in our U5 (Under 5) division and goes up to High School in our Coed U18 division as well as up to age 62 years old in our adult recreational leagues.
Our competitive league has players from the early age of 7 through 18.
A photocopy of the player's birth certificate is required. The age requirement is evaluated only once a year, on July 31st. For the Fall season the age requirement must be met on July 31 of the same year. For the spring season the age requirement must be met on July 31 of the previous year.
Team Organization
LSSA strives to balance teams. Teams may stay together from season to season, using a draft for new players to create new teams or balance existing teams. If desired, parents may request their child be re-drafted onto a different team. New players are always welcome and will be placed on teams where needed. Generally, requests to play for a specific coach or with a specific player cannot always be honored.
Schedule
LSSA games are generally played on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. The first game is usually in the first weekend in March for the spring season and the last weekend in August will begin our fall season. We make every effort to play seven regular season games and one post season tournament for our recreational division with the exception of the U5-U5-U6 and Adult divisions. Mother Nature does not always cooperate with our schedule and make up games are generally held on Sundays, between 9am and 7pm. The recreational division does not play on Easter weekend.
Venue
All games are played at 1501 and 1601 NE Blackwell Road located in the beautiful Legacy Park. The park is located in Lee's Summit located at the intersection of Colbern and Blackwell roads.
Uniforms
For the recreational soccer divisions, LSSA provides a team shirt that must be the outermost articles of clothing worn while on the playing field. Shin guards are required to participate in LSSA games and practices. Soccer cleats are optional, but LSSA does not allow baseball cleats (cleat on the toe of the sole) or football (rectangular cleats on the outmost part of the sole). Black shorts are the player's choice, but not required. Players need their own soccer ball for practice:
- Soccer ball size 3 for ages U4 “the juniors” through U8
- Soccer ball size 4 for U9 thru U12
- Soccer ball size 5 U12 through the adult divisions
Practices
Coaches schedule practices at various schools, parks and churches. Generally, practices will be twice a week with a game to be played on the following weekend.
